New and Improved Hush

In case simply turning off Swaggle for an evening doesn't meet your hush needs, we've expanded the hush functionality. You can now specify a particular date to turn Swaggle off until. Send:

.HUSH 12/15/07

or

.HUSH Dec 15

and you won't receive Swaggle messages until December 15th. To re-enable Swaggle without waiting, just send

.HUSH off

Hush

Swaggle is meant to be a chat tool, but sometimes people can get too chatty, and you want to get some sleep. You don't want to turn off your phone, you just want people to hush up!
To help you out, we added the hush command. If you send:

.HUSH

we'll turn off your Swaggle until 8 a.m. the next morning. Important messages (e.g., join requests) will get queued up and delivered in the morning, but the evening's chatter will get tossed away, so you can enjoy some rest. As with Swaggle commands, don't forget to include the period at the beginning of the word.

Have a good night's sleep!

Reporters

Yesterday, we introduced the broadcast-only group, where only the owner could send messages to the full group. Today, we add the concept of a reporter, someone who is not an owner of the group, but can send messages to it. Only an owner can designate a reporter.

The syntax is ".REPORTER ". For example:

.REPORTER newsevents walterc

would designate the user with Swaggle-name WalterC as a reporter for the group newsevents. WalterC's messages to that group would go to everyone in it.

Broadcast Groups

We've added the concept of a "broadcast" group, where only the owner can send messages to it. This can be handy when you want to let a group of people know something (e.g., interesting events, emergency situations) but don't want your messages to be clouded with chatter. People can sign up for a broadcast group knowing their phones won't be chirping off the hook with messages, because only you send them.

To create a broadcast only group, simply include the keyword "broadcast" after the group name. For example:

.create flashmob broadcast

Messages sent to a broadcast group by members will be sent to the owner only.
