Extended Family Seeks Home

Do you have a roughly 6,000+ sqft large house, multipleplex, apartment building or multiple dwelling-zoned land in Seattle you would consider selling? Group of eight+ looking for a home.

We are a close group of friends who have worked together, traveled together, camped together, painted together, built together and lived together, and now we're ready to settle down together. There's one child in our group so far, and many aunts and uncles. Our family wants a place to call home. Will you sell it to us? Please e-mail us at coho@hive-mind.com if you have a property we might be interested in.

Let me tell you about it: it's a big old home with a big yard. Each of the families has a private space to call their own with its own bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, and maybe work / art space. At the heart of the house is the common space: a big open floor plan kitchen and living room where we can relax, talk, read, write and play.

Adjoining this big, warm living room is a common work space, a large room filled with our desks and tables, where we can work on our projects: software, drawing, sculpture, writing, whatever has struck our individual fancies. Because we all work near each other, we help each other out when we're stuck, encourage each other, and take a break to laugh together.

When it's time to run a quick errand, take a shower, or just take a nap, there's no need to phone a babysitter and make arrangements for someone to watch the young ones, there's a house full of uncles and aunts always willing to keep an eye out.

Impossible

I know what you're thinking. You're asking for too much, it will never happen. And maybe you're right. But my mother taught me that you're much more likely to get what you want if you ask. So let me tell you exactly what we're looking for.

  • In Seattle, ideally in the Capitol Hill, Central District, North Beacon, Wallingford, Ravenna, University District neighborhoods. Walking / biking distance to restaurants, coffee shops, and maybe a neighborhood tavern.
  • 6,000+ square feet of living space (or expandable / buildable to that size). We're close, but we're also smart: people need space so they don't drive each other bonkers. We want common space, private space, work space, art space, storage space. We'd even love space to rent to some of our friends who aren't ready to buy, or to have room to expand to more owners.
  • Ideally, subdividable into 5 or more separate units, but with a large common space. We're ready to do some remodeling. We know our way around tools (and contractors).
  • A yard for a vegetable garden and for kids to go dig up worms and build tree houses and pick dandelions and for uncles and aunts to sit and eat barbeque on a sunny day.

It's a lot to ask for, I know. If you have something that sort of resembles what we want, go ahead and contact us at coho@hive-mind.com! Maybe we can make it work.

Money

And I know what you're thinking: you crazy hippie kids, you're asking for the world and now you're going to want to pay for it with granola and "good vibes". Well, we're not rich, but we've done our research and we've worked hard and we think we can afford what we want if we're clever and lucky. We've worked out financing, all we're missing is the property.

Maybe you have an apartment building you're tired of managing. Maybe you have a multiplex that needs more repairs than you're willing to give it. Or maybe you just believe in our dream, believe that this is the way people were meant to live, and you want to help us.

Please, e-mail us at coho@hive-mind.com if you think you can help. Even if you don't have exactly what we're looking for, let's get creative.
